Covid-19 testing for Seniors
My Role: UX Designer & Researcher Project Duration: 2 months
The Problem
Cambridge needs a better way for their senior residents to get tested for Covid-19. Many seniors did not feel safe going to a testing location or healthcare provider, while others have trouble traveling outside of their home.
To find out more about the senior community in Cambridge and their thoughts on Covid testing, we interviewed 8 people over the age of 65.
Research Process
My team and I started by interviewing seniors over the phone and asking them some general questions about technology. We then made an empathy map(pictured below) which helped us in the making of our persona.
To further analyze the specific pain points of seniors trying to get a Covid-19 test, we constructed an as-is journey map(pictured below). We were able to pin point which certain actions were either unpleasant or could simply be improved.
Research Insights
After completing our as-is map we decided our two most prominent pain points were - insufficient knowledge about the Covid-19 test and physically getting to their appointment. We started with multiple brainstorming ideas, and finally decided upon an at-home Covid testing service. So now our question was, what does this ideal situation look like? To figure that out we constructed a new journey map, or “to-be” scenario (pictured below).
Solution
Once we knew what our solution would be, we wanted to come up with three solid design principles that we could refer back to throughout our design process. Those design principles are clarity, reassurance and efficiency.
Design
I used the ideal user journey to design simple wireframes to show what the app portion of the product would look like and how the user journey would come to life.
After designing simple wireframes I was able to go into more detail and design some high fidelity mockups.
Pictured here are the ‘Sign in’ mockups(left) along with the ‘Create Account’ page.
